Global Residence Program – Singapore (MBA 해외현장학습 – 싱가포르)

Our cohort of 87 full-time MBA students at Seoul National University had the privilege of participating in the Global Residence Program (GRP), where we would choose among SNU’s three partner schools for our trip this year: Hitotsubashi University in Tokyo, Chinese University in Hong Kong, or Singapore Management University in Singapore. What follows is a summary of our enriching experience in Singapore:

 

Day 1: Arrival and Cultural Immersion

We arrived at Incheon International Airport on Sunday morning, still shaking off the remnants of sleep. Accompanied by our MBA Associate Director, Professor Michael Lim, our staff member Pomin, and the group of 20 classmates experienced a seamless departure and arrival into Singapore. Our energetic, local guide, Danny, welcomed us outside customs, and we embarked on a city tour. The evening was dedicated to an introduction to Singapore and our initial cultural encounter around Marina Bay. We explored the local mall, enjoyed a dinner featuring the local specialty, chili crab, and later embarked on a river cruise around Marina Bay, marveling at the nighttime reflections of iconic landmarks, most notable the Marina Bay Sands.

 

지난 11월, 서울대학교 경영전문대학원은 해외현장학습 프로그램(Global Residence Program)을 진행하였다. Full-time MBA 원우들 87명은 일본의 히토츠바시대학, 홍콩의 중국대학, 싱가포르의 싱가포르경영대학교 중에서 올해의 여행지를 선택할 수 있었다. 본 기사에서는 싱가포르에서의 풍부한 경험을 다루고자 한다.

 

1일차: 도착 및 문화체험

졸음을 다 떨쳐내지 못한 일요일 아침, 인천국제공항에 도착했다. MBA 부주임 임재현 교수님, 행정실 최보민 선생님과 함께 20명의 원우들이 싱가포르로 출발했다. 활기 넘치는 현지 가이드 대니가 우리를 공항 세관 밖에서 환영해줬고, 곧 도시 일주 투어를 시작하였다. 저녁에는 주로 싱가포르 현지 소개와 마리나 베이 주변의 문화 체험에 시간을 할애했다. 현지 쇼핑몰을 둘러보고, 특산물인 칠리 크랩으로 맛있는 저녁 식사를 즐길 수 있었다. 식사 후에는 마리나 베이 주변의 강을 따라 선상 크루즈를 즐기며 마리나 베이 샌즈를 비롯한 랜드마크의 야경에 감탄하는 시간을 보냈다.

 

 

Day 2: Lecture Day at Singapore Management University

We headed to campus for a series of lectures. The morning session, led by SMU’s Professor Heng Koon How, delved into the history of business of Singapore and its current significant role in the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) in terms economic collaboration. Following lunch, Dr. Ang Ser Keng provided an in-depth overview of Mergers and Acquisitions (M&A), ranging from high-level concepts to practical examples and group activities. In the evening, our group of 20 students dined together at a Michelin-starred restaurant, savoring Singaporean delicacies such as rendang and the vibrant atmosphere.

 

2일차: 싱가포르경영대학교에서의 강의

싱가포르경영대학교에서 수강한 오전 강의에서는 Heng Koon How 교수님이 싱가포르의 비즈니스 역사와 현재 동남아시아 국가연합 (ASEAN)에서의 경제 협력에 대해 심층적으로 다뤘다. 점심 후에는 Ang Ser Keng 박사가 M&A (합병과 인수)에 대한 포괄적인 개요를 강의해주었고, 높은 수준의 이론부터 실제 사례 학습 및 그룹 활동까지 경험할 수 있었다. 저녁에는 20명의 학생들이 함께 미슐랭 스타 레스토랑에서 식사를 하면서 싱가포르의 특산물인 rending을 맛보았다.

 

 

Day 3: Singaporean Company Visits and SMU Networking Event

Our day began with a visit to MoneyMax near the airport, where Chun Seng Lim, General Group Manager, shared insights into their business model encompassing MoneyMax and their subsidiary SK Jewelry. We gained valuable knowledge about their industry competitiveness and groundbreaking strategies: how they revolutionized the pawn broking industry by creating drive thru options at their locations. After lunch and free time at a nearby shopping mall, we visited the URA Singapore City Gallery for a guided tour with Cimon, shedding light on Singapore's history, growth, and current initiatives in sustainability through water conservation and renewable energies. In the evening, we returned to SMU for a networking event with students and alumni, receiving our GRP completion certificates from their program director, Dr. Ang.

 

3일차: 싱가포르 기업 방문과 SMU 네트워킹 이벤트

3일차 프로그램은 공항 근처에 위치한 MoneyMax 방문으로 시작되었다. 그룹 매니저인 Chun Seng Lim이 MoneyMax와 계열사 SK Jewelry를 아우르는 자사의 비즈니스 모델에 대한 통찰을 공유하였다. 드라이브 스루 옵션 도입으로 전당포 산업을 혁신한 방법처럼 혁신적인 전략과 업계 경쟁력에 대한 소중한 지식을 얻을 수 있었다. 점심 후에는 근처 쇼핑몰에서 여유로운 시간을 보낸 뒤 URA 싱가포르 시티 갤러리를 방문하여 싱가포르의 역사, 성장, 물 보전, 재생 에너지 등 현재의 노력을 살펴봤다. 저녁에는 싱가포르경영대학으로 돌아와 학생들 및 동문들과 함께하는 네트워킹 이벤트가 열렸고, 프로그램 주임교수인 Ang 박사로부터 GRP 완수 증서를 받았다.

 

 

Day 4: Final Cultural Exploration

Our last scheduled day took us to the iconic Marina Bay Sands, where we indulged in shopping, explored the convention center, and even tried our luck at the casino. The day concluded with a visit to the impressive Marina Bay Gardens, including the enchanting Avatar World of Pandora, providing a memorable highlight to our trip.

 

4일차: 최종 문화 탐방

4일차 일정은 싱가포르의 상징적인 마리나 베이 샌즈에서 진행되었다. 쇼핑을 즐기고, 컨벤션 센터를 둘러보며, 심지어 카지노에서 운을 시험해볼 수 있었다. 문화 탐방은 인상적인 마리나 베이 가든을 방문하는 것으로 마무리되었고, 매혹적인 아바타의 판도라 세계 체험 등 우리 여행에 잊지 못할 하이라이트를 제공했다.

Special thanks to our tour guide, Danny, and the organizers who contributed to a seamless and enjoyable trip. This GRP experience will undoubtedly remain a cherished highlight in our MBA program journey!

서울대학교 Full-time MBA 18기 송년회

서울대학교 MBA 18기는 조선팰리스 호텔에서 86명의 원우들과 함께 모여 송년회를 개최하였다. 학업에서 잠시 벗어나, 원우들은 아름다운 송년 저녁을 함께 즐겼다.

Gathering at the esteemed Josun Palace’s banquet room, our cohort of 86 full-time MBA students from Seoul National University came together to commemorate the Year-End Event. Taking a brief respite from academic pursuits, our students donned their formal attire, setting the state for an elegant evening.

 

 

행사는 SNU 포토월과 포토 부스에서 원우들과 소통하는 동시에, 사진을 촬영하여 그 순간을 기록하며 시작되었다. 저녁 식사가 이어지면서 학생회장이자 사회자인 김진석 원우와 부회장 김지민 원우가 다양한 상을 수여하고, 퀴즈 게임을 진행하며 행운의 추첨 당첨자를 발표했다. 송년회의 주요 목적 중 하나는, 특별한 행사를 가능하게 한 기부자들에게 감사의 인사를 전하는 것이었다.

The festivities kicked off with socializing and capturing moments at our SNU photo wall and photo booth. As dinner unfolded, Jinsuk Kim, our student president and master of ceremony, along with vice president Jeemin Kim, orchestrated the presentation of various awards, conducted a trivia game, and revealed the lucky draw winners. One major focus was to thank our program donors which made such a special event like this possible.

 

 

올 한해 동안, 우리는 '친해지길바라' 또는 '마니또'라 불리는 경쟁 프로그램에 참여하여 다양한 나이, 성별, 배경을 가진 학생들로 구성된 11개 그룹을 형성했다. 각 그룹은 만찬, 볼링, 노래방 등 다양한 활동을 통해 즐거운 시간을 보내며 깊은 유대감을 형성하는 것이 목표였니다. 가장 빈번한 모임과 가장 흥미로운 활동을 해온 그룹이 대상을 차지했다. 더불어, MBA 프로그램의 주임교수인 이정연 교수님과 부주임 임재현 교수님께서도 참석해주셔서 따뜻한 인사와 응원을 전해주셨다. 교수님들의 참석으로 더욱 특별한 순간이 될 수 있었다.

Throughout the year, we engaged in a competitive program called ‘친해지길바라’ or ‘Manito’, forming 11 groups comprising students of diverse ages, genders, and backgrounds. The challenge was for each group to spend quality time together during activities such as dinners, bowling, karaoke, etc., fostering a deeper connection among classmates. The group with the most frequent meetings and the most intriguing activities clinched the grand prize! We were honored to have our MBA directing professors, Mr. Jeong-yeon Lee and Mr. Michael Lim, in attendance. They shared kind words and conveyed well-wishes on behalf of the professors and staff.
